On the afternoon of 12th May 2008, an intensive earthquake hit Western China, destroying thousands of homes, factories and offices, trapping a great number of students in schools, and taking 40,075 lives, with 32,361 people missing and 250,000 people injured.
On 19th May, State Council of China declared a national mourning from Monday to Wednesday for the quake victims, during which all public entertainment activities will be halted.
At 2:28 p.m. on the same day, the whole China had mourned for three minutes to show the respect to more than 34,000 people confirmed dead after the magnitude-8.0 earthquake happened in Wen Chuan Sichuan Province, while flag flied at half-mast with air sirens, horns of cars, trains and ships sounded in grief.
Even though rain has still been falling, compounding their misery, domestic and international aids are continuously flowing into quake zone. The next day of earthquake, management in BYD Company Limited decided to donate 10 Million RMB and 1000 jacks to the quake zone. Since then, more and more donation has been made by the BYD president Mr.Wang Chuanfu and staff, ending up with a total donation as over RMB 13 million. Non-stop rescue operation is still undergoing and hope is still there, over the wreckage, supported by billions of people. |
