● BYD engine production line started operation yesterday, and the capacity was 100,000 units per year.
● BYD AUTO Shenzhen R&D Centre opened to trial-manufacture new energy vehicles.
The February 21st, a special day worth to be recorded in the history of Shenzhen auto industry, that BYD automobile engine production line started operation. It means that, after owning a national auto brand, Shenzhen is now on the list of the cities who can produce auto engine. The vice Mayor Mr. Liu Yingli and BYD President Mr. Wang Chuanfu cut the ribbons at the opening ceremony.
Mr. Wang Chuanfu said on the release meeting that BYD planed to launch the new models F6, F8, F1 etc. to the market this year. In order to satisfy the need of the new cars, BYD has built an engine production line which occupies 20,000 square meters in Pingshan base. Henceforth, BYD has the ability to produce BYD371QA engine 100,000 units per year.
Liu Yingli who represented the government congratulated to BYD. He said producing engines is a sign that shows Shenzhen is challenging the advanced automotive industrial cities in the world. The Shenzhen local automotive industry is on the course of transmitting from “made in Shenzhen” to “created by Shenzhen”.
Mr. Wang Chuanfu said the BYD371QA engine which was put into production yesterday will be equipped to the first self-owned subcompact car made by BYD---- F1. The BYD371QA engine adopted DHOC, MPI, and its power and fuel consumption reached the international leading standard, and the emission reached Chinese IV level. President Wang added, BYD originally planned to launch F1 in this June or July. However, the BYD solves the problem that engines are in short supply in Chinese market, so that the launch day of F1 will be brought forward to this April. Besides, F6, F8 and F6DM which is expected by the market for a long time, will speed-up be launched ahead of schedule.
BYD Auto New R&D Center Opened
The celebration which was as spectacular as the engines being put into production was the opening of the new R&D center in Shenzhen. The former BYD Auto R&D center was in Shanghai while the new one is located in BYD Pingshan Industrial Park. Its total size is about 120,000 square meters, and it is able to accommodate 2800 engineers. It includes BYD Automobile Engineering Research Institute, Automobile and its components Testing Center and Electric Vehicle Research Institute.
President Wang Chuanfu said, the new R&D center is the expansion and updating of the old one in Shanghai. It devotes to vehicle designing and automobile engineering and testing services, including the research and development of new generation vehicles and automobile components, whole vehicles and relevant components testing, and vehicle body and interior decoration designing, etc.. It was said by Lian Yubo, VP and Chief Engineer of BYD Limited Company, the core components of BYD EV will be designed and tested in this R&D center, and therefore Shenzhen will be the R&D center of world class alternative energy vehicles.
